Some Facts on Domestic Abuse

Most perpetrators of Domestic Abuse are men

  • 1 in 5 women experience some form of domestic abuse in the course of their lifetime
  • In 90% of cases children are present in the same room or nearby during an attack on their mother
  • In Angus police deal with around 1000 incidents involving domestic abuse every year - that's about 20 per week or 3 per day - it is however widely believed that only about 20% of domestic abuse is reported!

What you need to know about Domestic Abuse

  • You and your children have a right to be safe
  • Anyone can experience Domestic Abuse
  • Domestic Abuse is never your fault. The abuser is responsible
